Nismo Super Coppermix Twin Clutch Kit - Competition Model (Pull)
A super-strong clutch that combines ease of operation with an output ceiling of more than 600ps ? this was the development concept that launched the Super Coppermix Twin. Nismo first floated this concept as a carbon twin product. Two years into its development, Nismo decided that the low ? of the carbon facings could not match the performance that Coppermix promised. Nismo spent the next year and a half developing twin discs using it's proprietary Coppermix. This makes the Super Coppermix Twin the culmination of three and a half years of testing and development. It is the ultimate model in the Nismo multi-plate clutch series.
This is a completely new facing created using a special production method that literally molds the two different friction materials, metal and non-asbestos, together. You could actually call it either a metal that contains non-asbestos or a non-asbestos that contains metal. Here, the word metal refers to an aggregate of copper. Copper generates friction even in the high temperature ranges. Nismo have mixed it into the non-asbestos facing. Nismo uses this production method to greatly increase the amount of copper that is contained in the Coppermix facing.
With outstanding friction coefficient in the low temperature range, Coppermix leverages the high friction coefficient of non-asbestos, and in the high temperature range it utilizes the stable grip of the metal to provide excellent friction control. Non-asbestos has a high friction coefficient in the initial range, but as the temperature increases (during sports driving), this decreases. Metal, on the other hand, does not generate as high a coefficient as non-asbestos, but it does remain stable even in high temperature ranges. Between the two, they cover the full range of temperatures. Even in moments of severe temperature change, your clutch will continue to operate at optimum efficiency. This may occur when down-shifting out of a long straight away run, or when using the clutch to adjust angles when cornering. Coppermix will not only make your clutch easier to operate, it will also greatly reduce the load on the clutch disc. By responding to temperature changes generated by your actual driving, Coppermix delivers performance unobtainable with ordinary metal facings. Furthermore, Coppermix's efficiency is unaffected by the quality of a driver's technique, making it a high performance clutch that anyone can use without worry. Special production methods give you a facing with tough binding force. The Super Coppermix Twin does not use a cushion plate, but the center hub reduces linkage vibration. A standard clutch also incorporates a cushion plate with the non-asbestos facing in order to guarantee driving ease and ensure light clutch maneuverability. Nismo clutches pass the test for burst evaluation at both averagetemperatures (20ºC) and high temperatures (200ºC).
The Competition multi-plate clutch system takes the ease of use and high power handling fortes of Coppermix to the next level. Numerical values are Nismo measurement values standardized using a pushtype clutch combined with an RB26DETT engine. Evaluations were based on street and circuit driving. Using a center hub increases the engagement surface between the clutch disc and the serrated section of the transmission's input shaft. This lowers the overall pressure on individual splines. It reduces wear to the input shaft and prevents disengagement problems. Having a center hub also makes installation easier than for single clutches by eliminating the risk of damaging the splines or misaligning the two discs during clutch assembly. The ideal weight for maximum torque was obtained by using a lightweight flywheel manufactured from specially crafted chromemo-lybdenum high carbon steel. The flywheel is provided with a special aluminum cover with exceptional heat-radiating properties. The center plate is equipped with a strap function that also prevents any problems with disengagement. This mechanism leverages the reaction force accumulated by the strap plate to cause the pressure plate to constantly move away from the disc. It is employed as a standard part in manual transmissions and is installed in all production vehicles.
